How many scans happen every year?

40,000+ patients have CT or MRI scans every year at The National Hospital.

To maintain Queen Square’s reputation as a pioneering centre of neurology, it’s essential to invest in cutting-edge technology and innovation.

Technology & Innovation

We funded the Interventional MRI (which is part of the Brain Suite). It provides surgeons with instant real-time scanning and advanced surgical navigation, reducing re-operation and recurrence rates. We aim to support projects which aim to translate groundbreaking ideas into better results for patients.

Current initiatives in this funding area:

We also raised £1.3m for the Neuroimaging Analysis Centre, which reviews imaging of over 40,000 patients per year. Smaller technological projects are important too, and we have helped to fund iPads that can be used to inform patients visually about procedures, including lumbar punctures. These iPads also help clinicians – with specialist apps to support speech therapy, and also by assisting with patient flow and discharge.
